Fog to blanket UK as Icelandic cold front brings in bitter temperature
BBC Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood forecast heavy mist and persistent fog for the next few days. She noted cold days ahead from those areas blanketed by low clouds, with temperatures struggling to climb above four degrees celsius. In addition to this, a new wet weather front from the south-east promises to bring thundery showers from the continent.
Kirkwood said: "Once again today it is going to be fairly cloudy, ưe have got some mist we have got some fog. Particularly dense at the moment across parts of south-east England. But some of us will see a little sunshine more especially in parts of the west.
Kirkwood continued: "High pressure is in charge of our weather, not much else is going on. We do have this weather front coming in across the south-west and that is introducing some showers. Also all this low cloud, mist, and fog. Not just in England and Wales but also in Scotland and Northern Ireland but we will see some breaks in western Scotland, north-west England, potentially north-west Wales, and also we will see a few breaks in Northern Ireland. Showers continuing to push in from the south-west getting in towards the Midlands and also the south-east through the course of the day, some of them good are heavy and thunder."
The BBC Weather meteorologist added: "But if you are stuck like yesterday under all the low cloud temperatures will struggle above four degrees. Into Thursday, Kirkwood said: "Once again we see a return to a lot of low clouds, some mist and some fog and a new weather front coming in from the north-west will introduce some colder air and some snow across Orkney and Shetland "Maybe one or two centimeters but again most of the snow as it comes across the mainland will be on higher ground. Temperatures in the second half of the week all start at between four and seven degrees in the North and six to ten in the South. Some parts of the Uk could against see some snow at the weekend predicted the meteorologist as this cold Icelandic air meets with a new weather front pushing in from the Atlantic. The weather is also predicted to become increasingly unsettled moving into next week as this Atlantic pressure takes hold."
