There are some historical mysteries that may never be solved, from the date that Jesus was born to the identity of Jack the Ripper to the location of Cleopatra's tomb. Sometimes, that's because the relevant excavated material has been lost or an archaeological site has been destroyed. Other times, it's because new evidence is unlikely to come forward or the surviving evidence is too vague to lead scholars to a consensus.

The lack of answers only makes these enigmas more intriguing. Here, we take a look at Top Biggest 7 Unsolved Mysteries on the Planet.

1.Zone of Silence

The Zone of Silence is located between the 26th and 28th parallels, along the 104th meridian. Its area is unknown, but has been roughly estimated as a circle with a radius of 50 kilometers, and the center is the Vertice de Trino, a point which marks the juncture of the states of Durango, Coahuila and Chihuahua.

The Zone of Silence is part of the great Mapimi Basin, one of the most important depressions in the Mexican highlands, which drop from an average of 2,000 to 1,000 meters above sea level, thus forming the beginning of the prairies of western North America.

The first event at Mexico's Zone of Silence happened in the 1930s, when a pilot named Francisco Sarabia said his instruments went crazy and his radio stopped working while flying over the area. Later, in the 1970s, a malfunctioning American missile was launched from the White Sands Missile Base in New Mexico and crashed or maybe was pulled into the area, drawing attention to the location.

The Mexican government permitted investigators from the United States Air Force to investigate the incident at that time, which is when the cause was discovered. Due to local magnetic fields that generate a black zone, no transmissions of any kind, including radio and satellite signals, are able to enter the area, prompting the site's popular name.

Since then, research has been conducted in the Zone of Silence, which is on the border of the Mexican states of Coahuila, Durango, and Chihuahua, and the Mexican government has built a research Centre to investigate the region's unique ecology and wildlife. Theorists believe the government is researching more than it admits because there are several abnormalities to investigate.

The location is also a meteorite hotspot. Two meteorites have landed on the same ranch, according to Atlas Obscura, one in 1938 and the other in 1954. Scientists believe the remains of these meteorites have magnetic qualities, which could explain why so many iron-rich objects from space have ended up here.

2. The oldest stone temple on the planet

Considered the oldest temple on the planet, Göbekli Tepe located in Turkey is 6,500 years older than the entire Stonehenge complex and 7,000 years older than the Pyramids – meaning it was built about 12,000 years ago.

This ancient temple is known as the Stonehenge of the desert and experts are still trying to understand what its true meaning is.

Around the time Göbekli Tepe was built, according to Darwin's theory of evolution, most of humans still lived in the style of eating hair in holes. How to build a fine structure which contains a lot of knowledge about astrology is still a mystery.

The temple construction requires a huge amount of labor. Workers were required to be skilled and possess sophisticated stone carving technology to be able to carve such detailed reliefs. Scientists do not know how they can transport 16 tons of stone with a total height of hundreds of meters.

To this day, archaeologists continue to excavate Göbekli Tepe and debate its significance.

They claim that this complex is a place of spiritual worship, and the unexpected new discoveries of Göbekli Tepe have overturned all previous conceptions of humanity's ancient past.

Located on the Leh-Kargil-Baltik national highway, about 29 km from Leh city, at an altitude of 4270 meters above sea level, the famous Manegtic Hill is a place where the car you park can automatically take you to the top of the hill at a speed of 20 km/h.

Until now, scientists are still confused to find out what causes a mysterious force to pull the car back up. Despite strange powers, some argue that the automatic cars moving up the hill are just an illusion. There are many theories about this hill and so far it remains an unsolved mystery.

There was a strange phenomenon that looked as if there was a fire burning in the middle of a waterfall. The Eternal Flame waterfall in Chestnut Ridge Park (New York) is one of the strangest unanswered phenomena in the world.

This unusual waterfall is made by Mother Nature and scientists think it is possible that the fire was born from small cracks in the rock that emitted natural gas, causing fire.

However, the temperature of the slab was not hot enough to sustain the fire year after year.

The fact that it burns right in the heart of the waterfall, regardless of the four seasons as well as despite the torrential flow of water from the 9-meter-high waterfall, has become a mysterious phenomenon until now. Native American legend holds that anyone who admires this fire will have good luck.

Built between 1371 and 1374 by the Venetians, the castle St. Nikitas was the residence of nobles. But locals often call it Frangokastello, which means Castle of the Franks.

On May 17, 1828, a fierce battle took place at the castle when Hatzzimichalis Dalianis, a Greek patriot from Epirus, came to occupy the fortress but was eventually surrounded by the Turks. Then the Turks were massacred by ambushes of the Sfakiots.

Every year, on the battle anniversary, people see the phenomenon of "shadows" of fallen soldiers marching towards the castle at dawn.

This phenomenon lasts about 10 minutes, can be observed and even recorded at times of calm sea and high air humidity.

6. Dolmens Rock Tombs in Scotland

Just like the Pyramids scattered across the continents, these mysterious Dolmens appear in many parts of the world.

We can find these mysterious stone structures in Korea, China, Scandinavia, Russia, Spain, Portugal.

They all have the same familiar shape with pillars supporting a large flat stone on top forming a stone table, and scientists are still unable to fully explain them. Archaeologists believe they were built as tombs for people of the dynastic class.

There is a strange phenomenon when entering these stone "catacombs": if you bring electronic devices such as watches, compasses or phones, they will become abnormally active as if something is wrong. Sound waves cause disturbances to devices.

7.Cochno Stone

Cochno Stone is a large sandstone outcrop with hundreds of symbols carved onto it – from the Neolithic rock-art through to 20th century graffiti.

The stone was buried by the heritage authorities in 1965 due to damage caused by visitors but was briefly uncovered in 2016, which revived interest in the other rock-art sites in the area.

The stone is not a new discovery. In fact, it’s been known to locals in the area almost since the 19th century. It was first fully uncovered by Reverend James Harvey in 1887. In 1937, archaeologist Ludovic Maclellan Mann worked on the site. He painted lines on the stone to get a sense of the size of the artwork. His theory was that the lines were related somehow to eclipses or other astronomical phenomena.

He believed that the people who had created the artwork were attempting to predict, or at the very least simply record, movements of the sun and moon. However, his own data ended up disproving him.

The stone was left uncovered and unprotected by any authorities. By 1965, it had been horribly vandalized and disfigured. In an attempt to protect it, archaeologists reburied it beneath layers of soil where the stone has laid, invisible, until this past summer.

The meaning of the Cochno Stone remains a mystery. For now, the decorative swirls lie safe from harm beneath several layers of soil. Only time will tell if the data collected by this year’s researchers will be of any use.
