Its name, "Caran d'Ache," is derived from the Russian word for pencil, "karandash," which itself is derived from the Turkish word "kara tash" (basically graphite). Fine tools like the Gothica, La Modernista Diamonds, and the Caran d'Ache 1010 are made with the help of this knowledge and skilled craftsmanship.
The Gothica, a tribute to gothic architecture, has 72 rubies and 72 emeralds set in patterns of fleur-de-lis and rosettes. It also has nearly 900 diamonds set in the cap and barrel, adding an extra touch of opulence.

Tibaldi, a pen manufacturer in Florence, is known for his attention to proportion, design, and superb technical execution. The cap to barrel ratio is precisely 1.618 based on the Divine Proportion of Phi.
Additionally, the expensive pen's parts are equally opulent: 123 rubies and 945 black diamonds are set into its surface. Only one was produced by Tibaldi, and it was sold in Shanghai at a charity auction.
