Keanu Reeves' portrayal of the "pencil killer" John Wick is currently breaking box office records worldwide, bringing in more than $141 million in North American and foreign markets. The movie is also the most profitable installment of the John Wick franchise and had the most impressive debut to date in 2023.
John Wick 4 was a box office success, but it also won over fans and critics. The movie received an A rating from Cinemascore and received the Rotten Tomatoes audience and critics scores of "sweet spot" and "fresh tomato," respectively. Before the enthusiastic audience response, Lionsgate was open about wanting to bring John Wick back.
"Everything is conceivable. We will now pause for a moment before sitting down to discuss, brainstorm, and determine potential directions for part 5. However, nothing is secure at the moment. Lionsgate Studios President Joe Drake made an announcement.
Although there aren't any formal discussions about a fifth John Wick movie right now, director John Stahelski told The Hollywood Reporter that if the idea is thought to be good enough, the production team will undoubtedly respond.
"John Wick is a source of pride for me and Keanu Reeves, and you won't hear us stop talking about it. We are willing to return to create another segment or at the very least contribute to supporting a new project if the audience wants to keep watching. Director John Stahelski told Screen Rant that Lionsgate now owns the John Wick brand, so the choice is ultimately up to them.
Actor Keanu Reeves revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he would only return to John Wick if director Chad Stahelski was in charge of the project: "I don't know (about the status of season 5), but if asked, I won't object. However, without Chad Stahelski, I couldn't imagine making a John Wick movie. We still need to determine whether the new project fits our needs. It matters to me that John Wick's persona can truly find peace.
As a result, it's unlikely that we'll see the fifth chapter of the assassin known as "Bodger" anytime soon.
The Ballerina spin-off, which centers on masked assassins in the underworld, will feature this character back.
The Continental series, which centers on the same-named hotel chain and promises to be as alluring and intense as John Wick, continues to deepen and expand the gangster universe in John Wick.
What Is Next for John Wick?Although the release date of John Wick 5 is still uncertain, this does not necessarily indicate that the series will end soon. Ballerina, the spin-off of Ana de Armas, is currently being made, as was previously mentioned. In addition, Chad Stahelski is still producing Ballerina, and Keanu Reeves is scheduled to appear in a cameo. Despite what he might be thinking right now, it seems more likely than not that Stahelski and Reeves will return for John Wick 5 soon.
