A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother. Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.

Alongside Yeun, the cast for the film includes Yeri Han (Illang: The Wolf Brigade), Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Will Patton (Yellowstone, Swamp Thing), Scott Haze (Venom, Zeroville), and South Korean veteran actress Yuh-Jung Youn (Sense8, Dear My Friends).

The film is a co-production between Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and A24, with the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Oscar winner executive producing the project alongside Yeun and Joshua Bachove (The Little Hours) while Dede Gardner (The Underground Railroad, If Beale Street Could Talk) produces alongside Jeremy Kleiner (The Third Day, Ad Astra) and Christina Oh (The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Ad Astra), Coming Soon cites.

What is the Minari VOD release date?

A24 has announced that director Lee Isaac Chung’s upcoming drama film Minari will finally be getting a digital release, following its scheduled theatrical release on February 12, 2021. Starring Steven Yeun, Han Yeri, and Youn Yuh-Jung, Minari will arrive on VOD on Friday, February 26, 2021.

This announcement also came with the release of a new featurette promo which you can check out below, featuring the cast as they explained what the title means to them.

Where to watch Minari?

Beginning on February 26, you will be able to rent Minari on Amazon Prime, Google Play, iTunes/Apple TV, Vudu, FandangoNow, or wherever you prefer to purchase digital content. Though the price may vary depending on which platform you use, the suggested price is $19.99, and you will have a 48-hour viewing window to watch after hitting play.

If you’re anxious to watch it at home even sooner, beginning February 12, you can watch the film via A24’s virtual screening room. Currently, tickets are available for 7 p.m. showings every night from February 12 to February 25. Tickets cost $20 apiece, and are in limited supply, so hurry before the time you want is sold out.

Will Minari be on Netflix?

Minari is not headed to Netflix any time in the immediate future. However, there is a chance that Minari will someday be streaming on Netflix. Movies from A24 seem to make their way to the streaming service more often than not, like Uncut Gems and Lady Bird. That said, it is not a guarantee! If you’re dying to see the movie everyone is tweeting about, your best bet is to rent Minari on VOD beginning on February 26.

Will Minari on Amazon Prime for free?

On February 26, you will have to pay $19.99 to rent Minari on Amazon Prime. However, there is a chance that Minari will eventually be streaming on Amazon Prime for free. The studio A24 inked an output deal with Amazon Prime back in 2013, which allows Prime to get the streaming rights to A24 films after they come out on DVD. However, the most recent A24 films—like Waves, Uncut Gems, and First Cow—have not gone to Amazon Prime for free, so it’s unclear if the deal is still in place. Again, your best chance to watch Minari ASAP is to pay $19.99 to rent the film. It’s worth it!

Lee Isaac Chung’s deeply personal Minari follows the story of a young Korean migrant family that moves from California to the South when father Jacob (Steven Yeun) decides to pursue the American dream and start his own farm, a move that has far-reaching implications for his wife (Yeri Han), children (Alan S. Kim and Noel Cho), and mother-in-law (Yuh-Jung Youn), who eventually joins the clan.

The movie’s nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2021 Golden Globe Awards has had some industry watchers scratching their heads – the dialogue may be mostly Korean, but this is a decidedly American story and film – and Chung told that he feels “the characters in this film speak human.” Chung also reveals to Rotten Tomatoes editor Jacqueline Coley why he decided to avoid portraying racism in his unique immigrant tale, Rotten Tomatoes cites.

Coley also sat with Yeun for an extended conversation about shaping the singularly focused Jacob as well as the Certified Fresh hot streak he’s been on for the last five years, while Yeri Han and Yuh-Jung Youn share why they joined the project, and Alan S. Kim – who makes a wonderful debut in the film – surprises Yeun with a distinct memory from his audition.
