Shazam 2 Plot

Dr Thaddeus Sivana was sent to prison after he lost to Shazam and his newly superpowered siblings. In the middle of the credits, Sivana is visited by Mister Mind- a highly intelligent caterpillar who is a significant supervillain in the comics.

Mister Mind is a major threat with his own Monster Society of Evil, where Dr Sivana is a frequent member. He further mentions the “seven realms” that refers to the “Rock of Eternity” in the comic books. With the Shazam family finally settles with their superpowers, the sequel could explore these realms in detail.

In fact, with Mister Mind’s help, Dr Sivana could escape the prison and go after the realms to acquire the Seven Deadly Sins. As for Billy, he was well-accepted in the family the moment he entered the house. But now, he accepted the family as his own. We could also watch more family time and bonding, according to thecourierdaily.

Shazam 2 release date

As mentioned before, the sequel was set to arrive in cinemas on April 1, 2022 before that date was pushed back to November 4, 2022, following Warner Bros shuffling its upcoming release calendar.

That wasn't the final delay though as it was confirmed in October 2020 that the sequel has been pushed back to June 2, 2023 in UK and US cinemas. Hopefully that date will stick though this time.

Sandberg joked about the delay and reassured fans that despite the change in release, the plans for filming haven't changed at all.

"And Shazam! Fury of the Gods is now a summer 2023 film... WB was like 'Can't you just use fake beards on the kids?' and I was like, 'If Tom Cruise is going to space for real then we can wait for the kids to grow real beards! It's an important plot point," he tweeted.

"Seriously though, it doesn't mean we have to change the shooting schedule so no need to freak out about the age of the kids. You can freak out about your own age though. I'll be 42 in three years. How about that!"

It seems those filming plans are to start shooting in early 2021, according to Adam Brody: "The way I hear it, it sounds like maybe early next year, maybe early this coming year [we'll start production]. And what lies in store, I really don't know."

The main faces from Shazam are all set to make a comebacks for the sequel. So Asher Angel is back as Billy Batson alongside Chuck star Zachary Levi. Jack Dylan Grazer, Marta Milans, Rachel Zegler and Faithe Herman are also set to star.

The most interesting bit of casting information so far is that Dame Helen Mirren has signed up – Mirren will be playing the villain of the piece, Hespera, and if we weren’t excited for this before (we were), we certainly are now as that is an inspired choice.

Many are also expecting Dwayne Johnson to make an appearance as Black Adam – a move that does seem feasible at this point with his own solo movie also on the way for DC and the two characters sharing a lot of history in the comics, as reported by radiotimes.

Shazam 2 villain: Who will be the villain in Shazam Fury of the Gods?

After Shazam and his newly-superpowered family defeat Dr Thaddeus Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins in the first movie, we catch up with the villain in his cell in the mid-credits scene.

Here, Sivana meets Mister Mind, a highly-intelligent caterpillar-like creature who is a major supervillain in the comics. Mister Mind is such a menace that he even has his own Monster Society of Evil, with Sivana a frequent member.

"Oh what fun we're going to have together. The seven realms are about to be ours," he tells Sivana, potentially setting up the plot of the sequel.

The "seven realms" is a reference to The Seven Magiclands which are connected to the Rock of Eternity in the comics. With the Shazam Family now established in the Worlds of DC, could the sequel see them explore these realms?

That doesn't rule out the return of the Seven Deadly Sins, as even though they're safely tucked away in the Rock of Eternity again, Sivana still seemed pretty determined to get his hands (or should that be eye?) on them.

As for Billy Batson, he's fully accepted his place in his foster family and even leans on his buddy Superman to stop his brother Freddy Freeman from being bullied at school.

Star Zachary Levi certainly seems keen for Shazam to cross over with the other superheroes in the Worlds of DC. While a team-up movie seems unlikely in the near future, there could well be more cameos in the sequel.

When it came to many DC Easter eggs in the first movie, the filmmakers told Digital Spy that the only restriction was they couldn't use any character not yet in the Worlds of DC.

Shazam 2 trailer: Any Shazam Fury of the Gods footage yet?

It hasn't started filming yet, so any footage is a while away especially with the delay to 2023. We might even have to wait until Comic-Con 2022 for a first look, unless DC decides to hold its FanDome event again next year.
