The defending champions have begun the new season in imperious form, rattling in nine unanswered goals across the Trophee des Champions and their league opener last weekend.

Montpellier also got off to a winning start in Ligue 1 but needed a strike from Teji Savanier in the last ten minutes to overcome Troyes after the two clubs shared four goals in the opening quarter of an hour.

Here is PSG v Montpellier’s prediction, free sites to watch, team news, TV channels and odds.

Montpellier are currently in fourth place in the Ligue 1 standings and will be intent on securing their place in Europe this season. The away side edged Troyes to a 3-2 victory last week and will need to work hard to achieve a similar result in this fixture.

PSG, on the other hand, are at the top of the league table at the moment and have made an exceptional start to their Ligue 1 campaign. The reigning champions thrashed Clermont by a 5-0 margin in their previous game and will be confident ahead of this match.

PSG team news

While Lionel Messi and Neymar ran riot against Clermont Foot last weekend - scoring or assisting each of PSG's five goals - Kylian Mbappe had to watch from home. The jet-heeled forward has since returned to full training after missing the opener with adductor discomfort.

The involvement of Julian Draxler (knee) and Colin Dagba (calf) remains doubtful.

Montpellier team news

Stephy Mavididi lasted just 30 minutes of the opening game of the season and is expected to be out until the end of the month with a thigh problem. Arnaud Nordin and the academy graduate Sacha Delaye are both predicted to be sidelined with groin injuries until late August.

PSG vs Montpellier Predictions

  • PSG have won their last six home Ligue 1 contests.
  • Montpellier have scored in their last nine Ligue 1 matches away from home.
  • Five of the last seven home league wins for PSG have seen both teams get on the scoresheet.

Pochettino’s PSG still playing with fire

It took a 95th minute winner from Achraf Hakimi for PSG to pick up all three points away to Metz in Ligue 1 this week.

And, although it spared the Parisians blushes in a game they should be comfortably winning, Hakimi’s match-winning double also underlined how Mauricio Pochettino’s side don’t have to rely on their big three for goals.

Lionel Messi was missing with a bruised knee anyway and his status for the weekend is up in the air, although the hosts won’t be lacking in the forward areas – it’s the backline that remains a concern.

PSG have kept two clean sheets in nine competitive fixtures this term, one of which was against newly-promoted Clermont at home, so a visiting team as potent as Montpellier right now will really fancy their chances of scoring at least once.

Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men are second only to PSG for goals scored this season and were five minutes away from claiming their third straight home win when Bordeaux struck to make it 3-3 on Wednesday.

They can take some positives from the game, including the goalscoring form of Valere Germain who made it three in three since his recent switch from Marseille.

Teji Savanier is still one of the better number tens in the division and Stephy Mavididi has an eye for goal too, so we are quite positive about the visitors’ chances of scoring in their 13th domestic away trip in succession on Saturday.

But the capital club have been justifying their short odds at home this term and, going back to the start of last season, PSG have now won 16 of their last 22 home league games.

Backing Pochettino’s side with both teams scoring is becoming an automatic play for PSG at the moment and we will again recommend it with a correct score bet of 3-2 this time because of Montpellier’s current cavalier style.

Anyone Stopping Paris Saint-Germain?

So, last season Paris Saint-Germain won Ligue 1 by 15 points, but no Champions League success, It was certainly a letdown year. It was also the catalyst of many changes this offseason with a new manager, Christophe Galtier, and soccer advisor, Luis Campos, creating a better roster with PSG.

During this transfer window, PSG hasn’t gone after the big-name players as they have in past seasons, signing Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos last summer. So, this summer, they signed midfielder help in Renato Sanches, Vitinha, and Nordi Mukiele. All are under 25, but are counted on to make an impact throughout the season.

However, the biggest news this summer was the re-signing of Kylian Mbappe. It was a huge extension for Mbappe, despite speculation that he wanted to leave PSG. A terrifying front three with Mbappe, Neymar and Messi, one of the best in the world. Mbappe’s sidelined at the start of the season (suspension/injured adductor), so Neymar and Messi combined for three goals and four assists in the first game of Ligue 1.

Can Montpellier Climb Back?

Montpellier had been a team often finishing in the top half of Ligue 1, staying out of the relegation battle. They were closer than usual last season. Montpellier finished 11 points above relegation qualification, in 13th place.

They haven’t made any big transfers this summer, as one of the smaller teams in Ligue 1. However, they have made good use of the signing players on frees, acquiring Wahbi Khazri and Arnaud Nordin after their contracts expired with recently-relegated Saint-Etienne.. They also signed Theo Sainte-Luce on a free, and acquired Falaye Sacko and Faitout Maouassa on loans. Nordin was the only one not to play (injured) in Montpellier’s 3-2 victory in their first Ligue 1 game.

Captain and star attacking player Teji Savanier comes off a solid season, with eight goals and seven assists. He did scoring twice in Montpellier’s first game of this season, the second sealing the victory.

Prediction: PSG 3-0 Montpellier

PSG vs Montpellier Head-to-Head

Recently in Ligue 1, the match between these two leaned heavily in favor of PSG. Since Montpellier’s last win, 3-2 in 2019 (goal in the 85th minute), they’ve lost in the last six. PSG did outscore Montpellier by a count of 21-2.

However, a 2-2 Coupe De France game went into penalties in 2021, wom by PSG, 5-4. PSG have clearly been the dominant team between the two recently.

Montpellier vs PSG: Free Tips

Montpellier hosts PSG in the second-last game of the season. The big question ahead of this duel is will Montpellier survive the onslaught against the Ligue 1 giants? We have the best two tips for this game as follows:

Both teams to score @ 53/100 (1.53)

We expect goals on both sides. PSG has relaxed their onslaught after winning the title, so don’t get surprised if they lose this game. The Parisians have been weak defensively this season. Moreover, Montpellier has failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last seven games.

Over 3.5 goals @ 9/10 (1.90)

This could be a high scoring game. Both teams have defensive issues. There were at least three goals in each of Montpellier’s three outings. Moreover, at least three goals were scored in three of PSG’s last four games.
