Norwich will be desperate to upset Liverpool to give their disappointing season so far some much needed momentum.

The Canaries have found the going tough since returning to the top flight, losing their first five games of the campaign to sit rock bottom of the Premier League.

A 6-0 thumping of Bournemouth in the second round of the Carabao Cup did little for their league form but victory over the Reds would provide an altogether more substantial boost to morale.

Norwich vs Liverpool

For the 18th time in 27 matches since Jürgen Klopp’s arrival at the club, Liverpool will face Premier League opposition in domestic cup competition. For the 20-somethingth time, the manager will — quite rightly — send out a pure youth/b-squad, including his assistant manager and heir apparent, Pep Lijnders, to lead proceedings. It’s the Magic of the Cup!™

How Norwich will approach the fixture is uncertain — a shot at Carabao Cup glory might sound tempting, but then again the Canaries have lost five straight in the league and Daniel Farke should probably focus on keeping his starters fresh so they can do something about that.

Indications from Klopp’s compatriot is that Norwich will be making “a few changes”, but whether that entails the sort of wholesale alterations expected from the Reds or if Teemu Pukki, Todda Cantwell, Pierre Lees-Melou and Milot Rashica are to be involved is unclear as of yet.

Kick-off Time

The kickoff is set for 7:45PM GMT/2:45PM EST tomorrow, and television listings for the match can be found on LiveSoccerTV.

Norwich team news

There is a chance that Bali Mumba could return for the Canaries after recovering from a dislocated knee, while Jacob Sorensen could also return to the squad.

Christoph Zimmerman, Sam Byram and Przemyslaw Placheta remain out.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will sit this one out because of illness, although chances are he would have been rested anyway because Liverpool are expected to heavily rotate – even Jurgen Klopp didn’t face the press ahead of the game, sending assistant Pep Lijnders instead.

Roberto Firmino, Thiago Alcantara, Harvey Elliott and Neco Williams miss out through injury, but there could be starts for the likes of Curtis Jones, Nat Phillips and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Norwich vs Liverpool prediction

Given Liverpool are likely to field a weakened side, Norwich could fancy their chances of at least pushing Jurgen Klopp’s men all the way but much will depend on Daniel Farke’s own team selection - will he go all out in pursuit of a morale-boosting result or will he, too, rest players, with the Premier League relegation fight his priority?

Which Carabao Cup games are on TV?

There are only two Carabao Cup games shown live on TV in the third round, spanning two nights this week.

Manchester United host West Ham in a grudge match between two sides who played each other at the weekend. United star Jesse Lingard struck against the Hammers – who he played for on loan last season – in the 89th minute before West Ham icon Mark Noble was substituted on in the 94th minute to take a penalty. And missed.

Before that, Norwich host Liverpool on Tuesday evening in another all-Premier League battle live on TV.
