FX has given a series order to Pose, the dance music from Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Brad Falchuk that stars Evan Peters, Kate Mara, and James Van Der Beek. The network has ordered eight episodes for Season 1, which is scheduled to begin production in February in New York. It’s slated to premiere on FX in summer 2018. The history-making Pose, which received a pilot order in March, will feature the largest transgender series regular cast, as well as the largest LGBTQ cast ever for a scripted series. The trans actors were cast after a six-month nationwide search led by casting director Alexa Fogel. They are MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar, and Angelica Ross. All will be playing transgender characters. Also co-starring are Tony winner Billy Porter as well as newcomers Ryan Jamaal Swain and Dyllon Burnside. In the photo above, Moore as Angel competes in the 1987 ballroom category in a scene from the pilot. Ballroom legends and survivors served as consultants, Deadline reported.

About Endlessness

Closing out the decade, Roy Andersson’s About Endlessness premiered at the Venice Film Festival back in the fall of 2019, with hopes we’d see it sometime soon as it was picked up by Magnolia Pictures. Then the pandemic happened, pushing a 2020 summer release to that fall, then another delay to 2021. Thankfully, it’s now arriving next month both in theaters and on demand––specifically on April 30––and a new trailer and poster have arrived. Reflecting on the human experience. In Roy Andersson’s latest, a man gets the cold shoulder from a childhood acquaintance he’d forgotten he was unkind to, a spontaneous dance party erupts outside a café, and a defeated army marches into a prison camp. The connections between these sequences are indirect but profound — they give a sense of grandeur to the most mundane of struggles while finding the terrible absurdity in acts of human cruelty, Vulture cited. In theaters and VOD, April 30.

The Mitchells vs. the Machines

Sony Pictures has sold “The Mitchells vs. The Machines,” an original animated family film from producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, to Netflix.

At one point, Sony changed the name from “The Mitchells vs. The Machines” to “Connected,” but it has reverted back to its original title. Sony had planned to release the film theatrically before Netflix acquired worldwide rights. The deal, which excludes China, was reportedly hammered out for more than $100 million. Neither company has confirmed the production budget, but price tags for animated films generally range anywhere from $50 million to $100 million.

An animated adventure. A charmer about a family of oddballs who have to save the world when everyone’s devices rise up and attempt to overthrow humanity. The film comes from the same producers as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and features similarly innovative animation techniques. Netflix, April 30.

Joining forces with a fellow SEAL (Jodie Turner-Smith) and a shadowy CIA agent (Jamie Bell), Kelly's mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S.

The Morales and the Orduz families are in a sticky situation under the same roof. But Captain González is on to them, no matter where they hide. The Unremarkable Juanquini (or Chichipatos) is a new Colombian comedy on Netflix in which Antonio Sanint — who also has a stand-up special on the service — plays the world’s most pedestrian magician. “Ma-lo, ma-lo, ma-lo,” chant the children in his audiences, Decider wrote.

The Disciple

Northern Indian classical music sounds like nothing other than itself: The jangling of the sitar and the meditational warbling of the improvised vocals known as raga have a profound ancient quality that taps into the mystery of human existence. Ravi Shankar may be the name most closely associated with popularizing such melodies in the West, but the art form (known as Hindustani music) extends well beyond the accomplishments of one man. That’s the hard truth faced by Sharad (real-life musician and acting newcomer Aditya Modak) in Chaitanya Tamhane’s brilliant sophomore drama “The Disciple,” the story of an idealistic young performer who dreams of capturing the magic of a musical tradition that he may lack the talent to achieve himself. In Tamhane’s dreamy, transcendent character study, the undulating raga melodies serve as a transformative portal to self-discovery that places the audiences in the confines of its entrancing power, Indiewire noted.
