This Amy Adams thriller, adapted from A.J. Finn’s (real name Dan Mallory) novel of the same name has been a long time coming. Originally scheduled for release in 2019, it has floundered in limbo, only to arrive in a time where it gains a new layer of relevance. Adams plays Dr. Anna Fox, a woman struggling with agoraphobia confined to her home. As a distraction, she spies on her neighbors, living life vicariously through them. But that takes a dark turn when she witnesses a violent crime. Directed by Joe Wright, the movie also stars Julianne Moore. — A.C.
