The Mercedes GLB EQ returns after its first attempt struggled to find a clear identity. This time, Mercedes takes a more confident approach: a roomier body, a cleaner design, a modern software platform and a choice of both electric and hybrid powertrains. The result is a compact SUV that feels far more complete than before.
More Space Without Losing Its Compact Character
The new GLB EQ grows slightly in every direction. It’s now 4.73 m long and 1.86 m wide, with a wheelbase stretched to 2.89 m. That extra room benefits both passengers and luggage.
-
Standard layout: five seats with 540 litres of cargo space
-
Optional: third row for occasional seven-seat use
-
A usable front storage compartment (“frunk”) of around 127 litres
-
Towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg
It still feels like a compact SUV from the outside, but now works better for families or anyone who needs occasional extra space.
Interior: Modern Screens, Cleaner Layout, New Software

Inside, the GLB EQ adopts Mercedes’ latest design language: slim screens, fewer physical buttons, and a calmer dashboard. The new MB.OS platform handles navigation, media, climate, and voice control with faster responses and better integration than previous generations.

A panoramic glass roof comes standard. It’s fixed rather than openable, but it lets in a generous amount of light, making the cabin feel larger.
Powertrains: Electric First, Hybrids to Follow
Mercedes originally planned to make the GLB a purely electric model but changed course during development. The updated lineup now includes two electric versions at launch, with mild hybrids scheduled to join later.
Electric Models
-
GLB 250+ EQ
-
Rear-wheel drive
-
200 kW motor, 335 Nm torque
-
-
GLB 350 4MATIC EQ
-
Dual-motor all-wheel drive
-
260 kW combined output, 515 Nm torque
-
Both are powered by an 85 kWh NMC battery.
Range and Charging
-
GLB 250+ EQ: 542–631 km WLTP
-
GLB 350 4MATIC EQ: 521–614 km WLTP
Fast charging peaks around 320 kW, enabling roughly 260 km of range in about 10 minutes under ideal conditions.
Standard AC charging is 11 kW; 22 kW AC and certain 400-V DC charging capability require optional packages.
Mild Hybrids (Coming Soon)
The upcoming mild-hybrid engines use a 48-V system with a small 1.3 kWh battery. They aren’t designed to operate as full EVs, but can shut the engine off or run electrically for very short periods to improve efficiency in low-load situations.
Pricing and Positioning
The GLB EQ sits below the larger GLC EQ in size and price.
-
Starting price: ≈ €59,000
-
GLB 350 4MATIC EQ: ≈ €62,000+
This still puts it well above mainstream EV competitors like the Skoda Enyaq or Smart #5, but Mercedes is targeting buyers who want a compact luxury SUV with more practicality than typical city-sized EVs.
Is the GLB EQ Finally the Right Formula?
The new GLB EQ feels better balanced than its predecessor. The added cabin space, improved software, longer range and stronger charging capability all contribute to a more convincing offering. With flexible seating, real long-distance capability and a much cleaner user experience, it now stands as one of Mercedes’ most practical electric SUVs.
