Love Food Hate Waste's premier annual campaign, Food Waste Action Week, unites corporations, governmental agencies, and international partners to assist citizens in acquiring the skills necessary to reduce food waste in their homes.
UK households waste 4.7 million tonnes of edible food annually. It's shocking to learn that 25% of food waste results from people cooking, prepping, or serving too much—a cost to UK households of £4.9 billion annually.
Food Waste Action Week 2023 shed light on how time and money can be saved by adopting simple behaviors that reduce food waste. In the end, this will lessen the contribution of food waste to global warming.
Food Waste Action Week 2024: 18th - 24th March
During 'Choose What You'll Use', Food Waste Action Week 2024 will promote the advantages of purchasing loose fruits and vegetables and encourage people to do so wherever they can. Purchasing food loosely lowers food waste. According to WRAP research, if all potatoes, bananas, and apples were sold loose, we could prevent 60,000 tonnes of food waste by allowing consumers to make purchases closer to their needs.
This year, they plan to collaborate with retailers, brands, and educational institutions to ease the transition to purchasing and selling fresh produce for all.

Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite literary characters and come to school on this day dedicated to celebrating books and reading.
By giving every child in primary school the chance to own a book, World Book Day aims to inspire kids to discover the joys of reading and books. This is done in the UK and Ireland.
Every year, a set of unique books priced at just £1 is released to inspire kids of all ages to start reading and own a book.
After that, elementary school students in the UK receive £1 book vouchers, or €1.5 in Ireland, which they can use to purchase any other book or one of the £1 books.
Additionally, a book is released in Welsh and Irish each year. Only Wales and Ireland have access to these, respectively.
Check your local bookshop to see if you can use your voucher as many major supermarkets in the UK, large bookshop chains, and hundreds of independent booksellers are participating.
