UK households waste 4.7 million tonnes of edible food annually. It's shocking to learn that 25% of food waste results from people cooking, prepping, or serving too much—a cost to UK households of £4.9 billion annually.

World Book Day 2024 |
The purpose of World Book Day is to inspire kids everywhere to start reading. In recent years, the campaign's target audience has grown from young children to include young adults and adults who experience literacy difficulties.
Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite literary characters and come to school on this day dedicated to celebrating books and reading.
By giving every child in primary school the chance to own a book, World Book Day aims to inspire kids to discover the joys of reading and books. This is done in the UK and Ireland.
Every year, a set of unique books priced at just £1 is released to inspire kids of all ages to start reading and own a book.
After that, elementary school students in the UK receive £1 book vouchers, or €1.5 in Ireland, which they can use to purchase any other book or one of the £1 books.
Additionally, a book is released in Welsh and Irish each year. Only Wales and Ireland have access to these, respectively.
Check your local bookshop to see if you can use your voucher as many major supermarkets in the UK, large bookshop chains, and hundreds of independent booksellers are participating.
The majority of UK schools participate by organizing a ton of entertaining literary-themed events and encouraging kids to dress like characters from their favorite books.

Pi Day - 14th Mar 2024
Pi Day is observed globally on March 14 (3/14) of each year. Every year on Pi Day, math lovers have the chance to eat pie, converse with friends about math, and recite the infinite digits of Pi.
Over 50 trillion digits have been calculated for pi beyond its decimal point. It is an irrational, transcendental number that has no pattern or repetition and will go on forever. Pi is infinite, so remembering it and computationally calculating more and more digits is a fun challenge, even though only a few digits are required for most calculations.
To celebrate the day, you can:
• Walk around in circles.
• Eat a pie.
• Throw a custard pie.
• Ponder on the wonder of mathematics in general.

Spring Equinox (Northern Hemisphere) - 20th Mar 2024
March 19th or 20th is the date of the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and September 22nd or 23rd in the Southern Hemisphere.
Latin is the origin of the word Equinox. It literally translates to "equal nights," referring to one of the two days of the year when day and night last exactly twelve hours each.
In the Southern Hemisphere, the Autumn Equinox is in March and the Spring Equinox is in September, in contrast to the Northern Hemisphere where it occurs in March.
Based on the Earth's orbital position with respect to the Sun, the Spring Equinox marks the start of what is known as astronomical spring.
Spring festivals have been observed for millennia by numerous cultures. Now that winter is over, it is time to sow crops. For instance, it is likely that the Christian holiday of Easter, which falls in late March or early April, was selected to align with the spring celebrations that were already observed throughout Europe.
Observing the sun rise on the day of the spring equinox was a pagan tradition, and many people still gather at hallowed locations like Wiltshire's Stonehenge to do this today.
Autumn Equinox (Southern Hemisphere) - 20th Mar 2024
