Betting Analysis & Picks
Manchester United beat Everton, 3-1, at Goodison Park back on Nov. 7, but the expected goals total in that match was just 2.2 in total — 1.6 of that from the winning side.
Throw out the 9-0, and Manchester United’s previous seven league matches have featured three goals or fewer, including two scoreless draws, and two 1-0 wins.
Everton’s past 11 league matches have featured three goals or fewer, with eight of those 11 ending with two or fewer.
You can call me a contrarian if you wish, but I’m going with under 2.5 goals at plus money. And Everton around +500 is simply too good to pass up. These teams are much more evenly matched than that. Manchester United are eight points ahead in the table, but Everton have two games in hand, shows actionnetwork.
Pick: Everton (+500), under 2.5 goals (+120)
Toffees travel in hope
Carlo Ancelotti was brought in to steer Everton back to Europe and their exploits during the first half of 2020-21 suggest that is a realistic ambition.
Wednesday night’s victory away to Leeds United lifted them to sixth with two games in hand on four of the teams above them, including United.
The win at Elland Road made up for the points dropped at home in the draw with Leicester City and the surprising defeat by Newcastle United.
Ancelotti will be relishing another trip, especially to Old Trafford, where United have suffered five domestic defeats in all competitions this season, a stark contrast to their unbeaten away record.
United’s last two home league results – a 2-1 defeat by bottom club Sheffield United and a 9-0 win over Southampton – illustrate an inconsistency that Everton, with seven away league wins to their credit already this season, can punish.
Tip: Everton double chance – Draw or Everton @ 6/4 bet365
Honours even at the break
Saturday’s encounter could prove a bit of an arm wrestle in the first half given the records of both clubs over the course of the campaign.
United have earned a reputation for coming on strong in the second half. They have been level in 12 of their 22 league fixtures at half-time, and have gone on to win six and draw five of those.
Nine of Everton’s 20 league matches have been all square at the break, five of those away from home, and they have gone on to win three times, drawing and losing one apiece.
Tip: Draw – Half-time @ 7/5 with bet365
|Everton have won only one of their last 13 matches against Manchester United across all competitions (D4 L8). The Toffees have also been beaten twice by United this season already – once in the Premier League and once in the Carabao Cup. |
Manchester United are currently on a run of 11 wins and only one defeat in 16 Premier League games (D3). However, all four of the Red Devils’ domestic defeats this season have come at Old Trafford.
Everton have won each of their last four Premier League away games and are aiming to win five successive matches on the road in the top-flight for the first time since 1970, when they went on to win the title. Only Manchester United and Leicester City have won more Premier League away games than Everton’s seven this season.
Carlo Ancelotti has led both AC Milan and Chelsea to victory at Old Trafford and could become just the second manager (after Jose Mourinho) to win there with three different teams.
Bruno Fernandes has 12 goals and nine assists in the Premier League this season. He could become just the fourth Manchester United player to reach double figures for goals and assists in a single Premier League campaign, according to thehardtackle.
