The 2021 NFL schedule is officially here. With free agency mostly over with and the 2021 NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, we can begin to preview the 2021 season. The AFC West should be one of the best divisions in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs will be motivated after falling short in the Super Bowl last year, the Los Angeles Chargers are excited to move forward with their franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert, the Las Vegas Raiders feel they made some improvements to become more competitive and the Denver Broncos appeared to have had one of the best drafts of any NFL team.

The Chiefs have won the division five years in a row, but could that change in 2021? Additionally, how many teams will the AFC West send to the playoffs? Below, we will break down the Chargers' 2021 schedule.

Los Angeles Chargers 2021: Predictions

The Chiefs weren't the only team in the AFC West who spent the offseason retooling the offensive line. The Chargers found their franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert last year. They showed they know the importance of protecting him in 2021.

The group of pass-protectors was brutal last season. Herbert absorbed 32 sacks, an additional 70 hits and pressure on 28.7 percent of his dropbacks last season. He still managed to win Rookie of the Year.

Selecting Rashawn Slater with the 13th pick was a perfect marriage of value and need. It also completed the remodelling after they signed likely starters in center Corey Linsley, guard/tackles Matt Feiler and Oday Aboushi to go with Bryan Bulaga at right tackle.

There are some questions on defense. The Chargers finished 18th in defensive efficiency last season, and their moves on that side of the ball may be net neutral. Drafting Asante Samuel Jr. in the second round should be helpful in the secondary, but they also lost Casey Hayward and safety Rayshawn Jenkins.

New head coach Brandon Staley, the former defensive coordinator of the Rams, will hope to have a positive impact on the group, but if Herbert sees a sophomore slump, the defense might not be able to carry the Chargers in games.

As long as Herbert continues to progress, though, the Chargers should be in the thick of the AFC wild-card race.

Prediction: 9-8

Toughest opponents

The Chargers’ schedule sees them play just two other NFL teams projected to win over 10 games in 2021. Two of those games come within the division against the Kansas City Chiefs, with the other game coming against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Chargers will not fear facing the Chiefs twice in 2021. Over the past few seasons, the Chargers have caused Kansas City problems. In 2018, they beat them in a superb Thursday Night Football matchup before playing them tough in 2019 and 2020 as well. In their first meeting in 2020, it took the Chiefs until overtime to beat them in Justin Herbert‘s first start.

As for the Ravens, the Chargers will have fond memories of defeating Lamar Jackson in his first playoff start in 2019. Los Angeles’ defense was the first to reveal the blueprint of how teams could take on this dynamic Ravens offense. This new-look Chargers unit will certainly not shy away from the challenge against Baltimore.

Easiest opponents

While those three games are as tough as it gets in the AFC, the Chargers 2021 NFL schedule does contain some soft spots. Eight of their games will come against teams projected to win fewer than eight games. Four of those games come against the Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos. As talented as those teams are, neither will scare the Chargers heading into their matchups this season.

The remaining four games come against the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, and Houston Texans. While none of those games will be easy, there is a big positive for the Chargers. Three of those weaker teams are games the Chargers play on the road. With five of their “easier” games coming on the road, the Chargers have the fifth-easiest road schedule in the entire NFL in 2021.

The service also the only streaming option to offer the NFL Network (R) and NFL RedZone (R). Also included are other popular channels such as FOX Sports Networks, RSNs, college football networks, FX, USA, NBA TV, and more.

Watch Live Los Angeles Chargers Games With CBS All Access

Our second best choice for Los Angeles Chargers games is CBS All Access. There are 11 games on this service. With this service, you can watch every Los Angeles Chargers game that airs on CBS. You can watch these games live as they air. Subscribers can enjoy local NFL on CBS games live all season—including the CBS Sports pre-game studio show and The NFL Today.

Don’t let your location stop you from enjoying CBS tv shows and sports. CBS All Access subscribers should note that this service pairs well with a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Learn how to use a VPN to bypass blackout restrictions and geo-blocking. We recommend ExpressVPN because of speed and server availability.

There are two different plans, one with limited commercials and the other is commercial-free. The limited commercials plan only costs $5.99/month, making it one of the most affordable options available to watch AFC football. There is also a commercial-free plan that costs $9.99/month. Watch Live Chargers Game With Hulu + Live TV

Many may be familiar with Hulu as being an on-demand TV service to watch previously aired TV shows but Hulu now offers Hulu + Live TV. This is one of the best options to watch your favorite NFL team because they offer live TV broadcasts aired on NBC, CBS, FOX, and ESPN (in most markets). The only negative is that if you’re an NFL junkie that is looking for NFL Network and NFL RedZone you will not find it offered by Hulu + Live TV so the only games you won’t be able to watch are those that are exclusively aired out-of-market on NFL Network on Thursday Night Football.

You can watch all 16 games with this service. Hulu only offers one live streaming TV package which costs $64.99/month. One major positive to this service is that is only one of two streaming services that offer FOX Sports Regional Networks.

In addition to sports, Hulu + Live TV contains over 60 channels. Other popular channels offered by this service are A&E, Bravo, Cartoon Network, CNN, Discovery, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, E!, ESPN, Food Network, Fox News, Freeform, FX, FXX, HGTV, History, Investigation Discovery, Lifetime, MSNBC, Syfy, TBS, TLC, TNT, Travel Channel, truTV, and USA Network). and more.

Watch Live Chargers Game With Sling TV

Photo: SlingTV
Photo: SlingTV

Sling TV by itself is far from the best option due to the absence of CBS but if paired with an OTA antenna or CBS All Access you can watch every single game. Sling TV does not require a contract nor does it have any installation costs. This live TV streaming service offers FOX, ABC (R), NBC, and ESPN (R).

It was previously reported that Sling TV was not carrying NFL Network and NFL RedZone channels this season; however, Sling TV has come to an agreement and will be offering these channels for the entire 2020 NFL season. You can get NFL Network and NFL RedZone with the Sling Blue package.

The Chargers have 4 regular-season games on these channels. Notably missing is CBS; however, you can use Sling TV in conjunction with an OTA antenna. (New users can get a free OTA antenna through our link if they prepay 2 months)

Sling TV offers the Sling Orange and Sling Blue plans. Both streaming plans cost $35/month or you can get Orange + Blue for $50/month. There are a few important differences to note. The Sling Orange plan includes ESPN but does not include local channels. For this reason, you will want to purchase the Sling Blue plan to watch the games. Please read our comprehensive Sling TV review for more details.

Stream Live Los Angeles Games With AT&T TV NOW

AT&T TV NOW is another option available for streaming NFL games. It was formerly known as DIRECTV NOW. This service offers CBS, NBC, FOX, and ESPN which means you will be able to stream every in-market game. These channels are available on the Plus package which is available for $55/month. The Plus package has 45+ channels including BET, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, Disney Channel, Fox Sports, TBC, TNT, and many more. Like the other streaming options, there are no installation costs or hidden fees.

NFL RedZone or NFL Network is not available on AT&T TV NOW which may be very disappointing for some NFL fans. However, if you sign up for the Max package you will get access to Fox Regional Sports Networks, as well as, HBO Max and Cinemax. Check to see if there are any special offerings to AT&T Unlimited customers. Also included is 500 hours of cloud-based DVR storage and 3 simultaneous streams.

Chargers key games

Week 3 at. Kansas City Chiefs: The Chargers split the season series with the Chiefs last year, but their win came against backups in Week 17. Still, Herbert almost scored a victory against the Chiefs in his very first start back in Week 2. He was incredibly poised for his first game, as he completed 22 of 33 passes for 311 yards, one touchdown, one interception and also rushed for a score in the 23-20 overtime loss. The second edition of Herbert vs. Patrick Mahomes should be fun.

Week 8 vs. New England Patriots: Herbert's worst game as a pro came in Week 13 against the Patriots, as the Chargers lost 45-0. I imagine this would be a revenge spot for this team after what was such an embarrassing loss last year.

Week 5 vs. Cleveland Browns: The Browns could be one of the best teams in the NFL in 2021. Kevin Stefanski went 11-5 in his first season as head coach and even won a playoff game. They made impressive additions in free agency and also had a great draft, so this should be a big matchup for the Chargers.
