Kobbie Mainoo: Man United's Young Star
Man United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been handed his first Premier League start by manager Erik ten Hag in Sunday's match against Everton at Goodison Park.
Kobbie Mainoo is a midfielder who has been making waves among the students at Man United's academy. The Stockport-born youngster initially played for flyweight football club Cheadle & Gatley before being picked up by Man United at the age of nine.
He continues to make an impression on a large scale and progresses steadily through Man United's youth team system. Mainoo played for Man United's U23 team last season and was rewarded with his first professional contract in May 2022.
While many young players shine early in their careers but fade away later, Mainoo certainly looks like a real adult. He shone against U21 Brighton last season before turning in an equally impressive performance against League Two side Carlisle United in the EFL Trophy.

Playing Style Because of his technical skills, dribbling ability, and impressive passing range, the 18-year-old midfielder has already been compared to Pogba. He is primarily a central midfielder, but he is equally at home in defensive and attacking midfield, giving his team versatility and mobility. Mainoo enjoys beating people in the middle of the park with his dribbling ability. He combines this with exceptional passing ability and physicality. The youngster's game awareness is already above what one would expect from a player his age, thanks to his great vision. Receiving the ball in tight spaces, he's a master at extracting time and space from a tense situation, always showing for the ball and never shirking responsibility. In an ideal world, Mainoo would be the type of all-action midfielder that United has lacked since Michael Carrick. |
