India's Weather forecast for February 6

During the last 24 hours, scattered snow/rain and thunderstorms are likely over Uttarakhand. Isolated snow/rain and thunderstorms are expected over Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. Isolated rain and thunderstorms are on the cards for Uttar Pradesh. Isolated rain is possible over Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Dense fog is likely at isolated places over Northern India.

For the next 24 hours, isolated snow/rain and thunderstorms are likely over Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, while just isolated rains and thunderstorms have been forecast over Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Isolated rain is possible over Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Dense fog is likely at isolated places over Central India.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation is located over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir as of Friday morning. The system has already brought about snowfall and rainfall over northern and northwestern parts of the country.

Today, this disturbance is all set to interact with the lower-level southeasterly winds blowing landwards from the Bay of Bengal. This interaction will effectively cause isolated to scattered light to moderate rains, thunderstorms, and lightning over East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and North Chhattisgarh on Friday, February 5. A day later, as the western disturbance progresses eastwards, these conditions will simultaneously shift further east as well, thereby bringing rains over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya on Saturday. Accordingly, the IMD has issued an orange alert over East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Friday; and over Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal come Saturday. This advisory instructs residents to ‘be prepared’ for rough weather.

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

The western disturbance, which brought snow/rain to the Northwest, has progressed onto Central India, causing thunderstorms in Uttar Pradesh. The disturbance will reach Eastern India by Saturday morning while gradually weakening. Not only the mountainside, but the low-lying areas such as Gangetic West Bengal are also likely to receive isolated rainfall on Saturday. Before dissipating, the disturbance is also expected to affect Arunachal Pradesh and the adjoining areas from Saturday afternoon.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the disturbance will interact with the lower-level southeasterlies from the Bay of Bengal, thereby causing isolated to scattered light to moderate rain/thundershowers, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning, over East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and North Chhattisgarh on February 5, and over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya on February 6.

In view of the above predictions, the IMD has issued an orange alert over East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Friday, and over Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal on Saturday. The next disturbance, meanwhile, is expected to reach Ladakh on Monday night. Only limited areas will receive isolated snow at this point. Other areas are set to experience dry conditions during this forecast period.

Northwesterly winds will get notable across the northern plains and central highland by Saturday. Accordingly, the Ganga Plains have a chance of recording over 4°C colder-than-average maximum temperatures this weekend and into next week. Overnight minimums will be average or lower than normal across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and the adjoining areas from Saturday to Monday.

The IMD adds that cold and dry northerly/northwesterly winds have already set in over Punjab, Haryana, and north Rajasthan, causing a fall in temperatures by 4-6°C in these areas. Under the influence of these winds, a further fall of 2-3°C is likely over Northwest India during the next 3-4 days. However, no cold day and cold wave conditions have been predicted over the region in this period.
