India's Weather forecast for January 28

As for January 28, scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Isolated rain is possible over Jharkhand, east Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Dense to very dense fog is expected over isolated pockets of east Uttar Pradesh. Dense fog is likely over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Sikkim.

Cold day to severe cold day conditions is possible over isolated pockets of east Uttar Pradesh. Cold day conditions are likely over isolated pockets of west Uttar Pradesh. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions is predicted over some pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Cold wave conditions are likely over isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Ground frost conditions are expected over isolated places of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and north Rajasthan.

Severe cold day conditions are also expected in some pockets of Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours, and over Madhya Pradesh during the next 2-3 days. A cold day is declared when the minimum temperature is below 10°C and the maximum temperature is 4.4°C below the regional normal. Overall, The Weather Channel’s met team has indicated that the maximum temperatures over North, Northwest, and North-Central India will be 2-4°C below the average for this time period, and the minimum mercury levels will also fall below average across North, Northwest, and Central India.

An orange alert instructs residents to ‘be prepared’ for rough weather, while a yellow watch urges individuals to ‘be aware’ of the local weather situation in their region. Along with the cold weather, the current spell of dense to very dense fog will continue in some pockets of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours, and thereafter decrease and create dense fog conditions in isolated parts of these states.

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

Dense fog is expected over the plains of north India for the next three days. Very dense fog is expected to engulf Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday, while similar conditions are possible over Punjab and Sikkim on Wednesday. Moreover, dense fog is also expected over northeast India on Wednesday. Low-temperature conditions are likely to persist over north India, central India, northwest India, and northeast India in this period.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dry northwesterly winds are likely to prevail over the plains of north India and adjoining parts of central India during the next 3-4 days. Under its influence, the parts of northwest India are expected to reel under cold wave to severe cold wave conditions for the next few days. Cold day to severe cold day conditions is expected over some pockets of east Uttar Pradesh in this forecast period.

Ground frost conditions are also very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, and north Rajasthan during the next 2-3 days. Maximum temperatures are 2 °C to 4 °C below average over north India, north-central India, northeast India, and northwest India in this period. Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures are lower than average over north India, central India, northwest India, and northeast India in this period. Minimum temperatures are higher over southeast India in this period. It is noted to be slightly higher over south India, southwest India, and northeast India in this period. Dry weather is expected across India, but isolated to scattered rain is likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands in this forecast period. Moreover, light rain is possible over east India and the adjoining area on Thursday and Friday.

Moreover, ground frost conditions are also on the cards at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and north Rajasthan during the next 2-3 days. This combination of ground frost and dense fog could be especially dangerous while driving on roads, and therefore, drivers must remain especially careful while these conditions persist.

In view of these predictions, the IMD’s regional met center in New Delhi has placed an orange alert over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday, with the advisory downgrading to a yellow watch from Friday, January 29 onwards. As for Rajasthan, the desert state will remain under a yellow watch throughout the forecast period. Further, the IMD has placed an orange alert over Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch subdivision on Wednesday, and a yellow watch from Thursday to Sunday. As for Madhya Pradesh, the entire state will remain under a yellow watch on Wednesday and Thursday.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dry northwesterly winds are likely to prevail over the plains of North and adjoining Central India for the next 3-4 days. Under their influence, severe cold wave conditions have been forecast in some to many pockets of Northwest India, along with the adjoining Central and West Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, between January 27-30.

Within Northwest India, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions has been predicted over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan until January 30. For the plain areas, the IMD declares a cold wave when the minimum temperatures are 10°C or below, and fall at least 4.5°C below the region’s normal mercury levels for two consecutive days. But for small areas like Delhi, a cold wave can also be declared if the temperature criteria are fulfilled even for a single day.
