"SugarCrash!"
I'm on a sugar crash, I ain't got no fuckin' cash
Maybe I should take a bath, cut my fuckin' brain in half
I'm not lonely, just a bit tired of this fucking shit
Nothing that I write can make me feel good
Victim of the great machine, in love with everything I see
Neon lights surrounding me, I indulge in luxury
Everything I do is wrong, 'cept for when I hit the bong
Hit the bong, hit the b-b-b-b-b, feel good
Feeling shitty in my bed, didn't take my fuckin' meds
Hyperpop up in my ears, everything just disappears
Don't wanna be someone else, just don't wanna hate myself
I just don't wanna hate myself, instead I wanna feel good
I'm on a sugar crash, I ain't got no fuckin' cash
Maybe I should take a bath, cut my fuckin' brain in half
I'm not lonely, just a bit tired of this fucking shit
Nothing that I write can make me feel good
(Where to now?
Got the rest of my life just laid out
Got the rest of my life to fuck around
Got the rest of my life to make sound)
Where to now?
Got the rest of my life just laid out
Got the rest of my life to fuck around
Got the rest of my life to make sound
Feel good

ElyOtto "SugarCrash!" MeaningHonestly the main theme of this song centers on the singer’s dependency on illegal substances, as well as we can say the aftereffects of him partaking of such. So with that understanding in mind, the titular “sugar” would be the intoxicants themselves, whereas the “crash” would be the hangover he experiences after having at them. And in terms of said intoxicants, based on the track’s singular verse it would appear ElyOtto has a special affinity for grass. He also makes mentions of “meds”, which is usually a metaphor for pills. And concerning why he likes to get high, mentally he possesses two characteristics which apparently lead to such. First is that he seems to have a very active, perhaps even hyper imagination, i.e. being caught up in the allure of the modern world and ‘indulging in the luxuries’ which it affords. And secondly, he appears to have some self-esteem issues which he is trying to suppress. Or as the vocalist puts it, he “don’t wanna hate (him)self” but rather just “wanna feel good”. But after the laughter comes the tears, so to speak. So for instance, upon ‘crashing’, he realizes that he’s broke. He also comes to the realization that “maybe (he) should take a bath”, with the implication being that he has pushed his personal upkeep to the wayside. And most importantly he still finds himself in a less-than-ideal state as far as his self-image is concerned. Or stated otherwise, he is still dealing with what can be classified as a mild form of depression. And as the song concludes, we see that ElyOtto also has a lack of direction in life. But all of the above observations are not to imply that “SugarCrash!” is all doom and gloom. Indeed in terms of its acoustics, it actually sounds quite upbeat and jovial. And the vocalist himself concludes by basically celebrating the fact that he’s slacking off. Or put otherwise, he’s young and accordingly looking forward to experiencing more misadventures as he grows older, according to Songmeaningsandfacts. |
