Match report and free highlights as Everton end three-game losing streak at Goodison Park to move to within two points of top four; Richarlison scores for third game running as Toffees move level on points with Liverpool and condemn Southampton to eighth Premier League defeat in nine.

Everton held onto a 1-0 advantage for over 80 minutes to ensure the side’s first home win since December 19 in the league. Richarlison produced a spectacular goal in the 9th minute after which the Toffees worked extremely hard to maintain the lead. There wasn’t much on offer on the attacking front which will worry Ancelotti going forward but it was yet another astute display from the defence.

Carlo Ancelotti named a strong starting lineup, bringing Allan and Dominic Calvert-Lewin back to the starting lineup. Gylfi Sigurdsson came in for James Rodriguez which meant a total of three changes from the side that historically won at Anfield a week ago.

What was surprising to many was the bench that the Italian named with Nathan Broadhead, Tyler Onyango, Ryan Astley and Kyle John among the mix of Alex Iwobi, Bernard, Joshua King, Niels Nkounkou and Joao Virginia.

Ancelotti decided to rest the likes of Tom Davies, James Rodriguez, Robin Olsen and Seamus Coleman as they had minor problems during training and he decided not to risk them with a hectic run of games ahead.

Everton will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League when they continue their campaign at home to an out-of-form Southampton team on Monday night.

The Toffees, who are currently seventh in the table, recorded a famous 2-0 win over bitter rivals Liverpool last weekend, while Southampton will enter the contest off the back of a 3-0 defeat at Leeds UnitedGoals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson handed Everton a long-awaited Premier League win over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend and fuelled suggestions that the Toffees could challenge for a top-four position.

Everton have actually lost eight of their 24 league games this term, though, which is a high number considering their position in the table, while their recent home form in England's top flight has been disappointing, suffering defeats in four of their last five league fixtures at Goodison Park.

Southampton, meanwhile, have not won in the Premier League since overcoming Liverpool at the start of January, suffering seven defeats in their last eight league fixtures.

A disappointing run of form has seen the Saints slide down the table into 14th position, now 10 points off the top six and only eight points clear of the relegation zone, level on matches with 18th-placed Fulham, Sportsmole reported.
