Eden Release Date: Cast, Plot And Trailer For Netflix Anime
|Eden Release Date. Photo: ustrendnews|
Eden is expected to be Netflix’s first entirely original Japanese anime. While Netflix has released original anime programs such as Castlevania and Neo Yokio in the past, these were often American-Japanese co-productions. Even anime shows labeled as “Netflix Originals” were licensed from different Japanese studios. Eden, however, is a wholly original Netflix property from Qubic Pictures and CGCG studios.
Irie directed all four episodes of the new series, while Ghost in the Shell 2 and Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Justin Leach handled producing duties. The show’s script was written by Kimiko Ueno, who wrote episodes of Little Witch Academia and Space Dandy.
Eden is a sci-fi series coming to Netflix soon and we’re here to tell you all about it right here.
Eden's Release Date
Eden is currently set for a global release date of Thursday, May 27th. The series is confirmed to be four episodes long, and it's unknown if there are any plans for a follow-up or further seasons. That likely all depends on the series' performance, as it's very much a gigantic first not only for the small companies behind it, but also for Netflix itself.
What is Eden on Netflix about?
Eden is set in the distant future where robots are the only form of existence and humans have been gone for thousands of years – except for the chirpy and excitable Sara, who was secretly raised by robots A37 and E92 after they found her as a cryogenically frozen baby in the city of Eden 3.
However, as Eden gets older she starts to learn some dark secrets about her seemingly lush and idyllic world, especially when the other robots of Eden 3 discover her existence and start hunting her down. Together with her mismatched surrogate parents, Sara has to find out where she came from what really happened to mankind before it’s too late – and in a world full of robots, she might just discover what it means to be human.
Who are the cast members of Eden?
At the time of writing only the Japanese dub cast has been confirmed:

Netflix recently revealed several other core members of Eden's creative team. Justin Leach will produce the series, alongside anime studios Qubic Pictures and CGCG. Kimiki Ueno (Carole and Tuesday, The Royal Tutor) will produce the screenplay. Toshihiro Kawamoto (Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop) and Christophe Ferreira (BUTA, Napping Princess) will co-create the character and concept designs, with newcomer Clover Xie serving as the background art director. Australian-based composer Kevin Penkin, who has composed soundtracks for anime like Tower of God, the ongoing The Rising of the Shield Hero and the recently announced second season of Made in Abyss, will score the series.
At the time of writing an English dub cast hasn’t been revealed.
Here’s the official synopsis of EDEN:
“In a distant future lies a city known as “EDEN”, barren of humans for thousands of years. Robots have been the only form of existence since. A human baby girl, Sara, awakes from stasis, questioning all they were taught to believe. No longer an ancient myth, two robots E92 and A37 become her surrogate parents, raising her in a safe haven outside EDEN. Who is Sara, and if humans have not existed for a long time, where and why did she appear? Join the 3 unlikely bunch on their journey to discover the truth.”
The popular streaming platform continues to extend its library with amazing anime series. For those who enjoyed Yasuke, The Way of the Househusband, High-Rise Invasion and much more, anime fans are in for something great and wholesome this time.
Post-human worlds are usually quite interesting. But from the eyes of Yasuhiro Ire, who also created one of the most successful anime series of all time, EDEN feels like it is going to be really special.
Eden Trailer And News To Know
Ahead of its May 27 premiere, Netflix released a full-length Eden trailer on YouTube in English and Japanese. Eden's trailer introduces audiences to the futuristic city of Eden -- a robot-led world solely inhabited entirely by A.I. -- and the show's protagonist Sara, a human who mysteriously awakens from stasis and whose existence ends up questioning the entire nature of Eden.
The four-part anime series will be directed by Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood director Yasuhiro Irie and is the first Japanese anime that's completely owned by Netflix.
The studios collaborating to bring the story to life are Qubic Pictures and CGCG Studio, two new studios based in Japan and Taiwan, respectively, with Eden being the debut production for both. Other talent includes Toshihiro Kawamoto, the character designer who worked on Cowboy Bebop, as well as composer Kevin Penkin, who worked on the music for Made in Abyss.
What is the episode count of Eden?
The full number of episodes has still yet to be confirmed by Netflix, but according to MyAnimeList Eden has listed four episodes. We think there will be more than four episodes and will likely be between 8 to 12 episodes.
