Daily UK and Europe Weather Forecast Today: Subzero Scandinavian blast to freeze Britain
UK's daily weather forecast
Tonight & March 7
Saturday will again be another largely dry day, after a frosty start for many, as high pressure sits over the country. Morning mist and fog patches are likely but should lift in many places allowing places to see some sunny spells developing. It looks to be cloudier generally though across much of southern and western Ireland where there is the risk of some rain in the far west here. Northern and northwest Scotland too will see some patchy rain and cloudier skies. Highs at 5 to 8C.
A largely dry night with clear skies for many allowing for widespread frosty patches first thing on Sunday. Always more cloud though across Ireland, parts of Northern Ireland, and northern Scotland where some patchy rain again will linger. Lows at -2 to 3C.
By Sunday, high pressure will have sunk down over southern England. It will continue to be a mainly dry day with a good deal of sunshine across England, Wales, and Ireland, however, Northern Ireland and much of Scotland will see more cloud cover and rain will push across northern Scotland. Highs of 6 to 11C.
Outlook for March 8 - 9
As for March 8, a largely dry day across England and Wales although clouds will build from the north, the best of the lasting sunshine furthest south. Meanwhile, the rain will spread eastwards across Ireland and Northern Ireland as well as Scotland, possibly touching into northwest England too by the end of the day. Highs at 5 to 11C. While on March 9, starting dry for most, but rain will soon spread across Ireland, Northern Ireland and then push eastwards into western areas of England, Scotland and Wales as the day progresses. Currently, eastern areas will stay mainly dry during the day with rain expected here overnight. Southwesterly winds strengthening to gale force and possibly strong gale force towards the northwest. Reasonably mild with highs between 7 and 12C.
Temperatures have already started to drop across much of Britain today and the latest weather charts show most of the country will see the mercury dip below freezing overnight and into the weekend. BBC Weather forecast Stav Danaos said: “To end this week and push into the weekend it will stay settled with a new area of high pressure moving down from the north but it will bring some cold air so frost and fog likely, a little bit of sunshine, but it will be chilly by day. This area of high pressure has been moving down from Scandinavia from Wednesday onwards.”
The chilly conditions look set to last well into next week, with snow forecast across parts of Scotland and North England, according to weather maps. Temperature charts valid for 6 am tomorrow show the UK turn an icy blue, indicating chilly conditions. The coldest temperatures will be seen in Scotland, northern England, and the west of the UK as the mercury is set to drop to lows of -3C. The rest of the country isn't expected to see temperatures go above freezing, apart from in the capital where 2C is forecast. The cold temperatures look set to continue through the weekend, with a similar weather chart showing chilly conditions at 6 am on Sunday. The map, by Netweather, shows temperatures are set to range from -3C to 2C across the UK.

BBC's warning for "widespread frost"
Forecaster Nick Miller said an area of high pressure will bring fog patches across parts of the continent on Saturday. The BBC meteorologist added the weather is expected to be dry for the majority of Europe but the cold air pressure will lead to temperatures falling. Miller said: "Many northern and central areas of Europe have turned rather cold again. For example, in Germany, there are warnings for widespread frost around underneath an area of high pressure where winds are light. This is where temperatures will fall lowest at night. There is a chance of seeing some fog patches around as well but with high pressure that means plenty of dry weather. here is just a chance of showers in Medditaranian areas, more particularly in southern and eastern parts of Spain during Saturday."
The BBC meteorologist continued: "There is an area of low pressure bringing snow across Finland and pushing down into the Baltic countries and Russia. There is quite a cold wind following in behind that system meaning temperatures will drop even further. There will be wet weather through Turkey to start the weekend and plenty of clouds around during Sunday across parts of Greece as well. The temperature across the UK is expected to be colder throughout the weekend."
