A new season will bring a new-look Crystal Palace, but the new manager faces a tough opening run as the Premier League fixtures were today confirmed.

Four London derbies in a row, starting at Chelsea, before the visits of Brentford and Tottenham sandwich a trip to West Ham.

Liverpool away and the visit of rivals Brighton round out a brutal first six games for Palace, who will have a new face in the dugout after Roy Hodgson stepped down at the end of last season and there is also expected to be a major overhaul of the squad this summer.

After talks with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo broke down, the Eagles are still searching for the right man to lead them into what they hope will be an exciting new era.

It remains to be seen if Wilfried Zaha will be part of that or whether he will get his move away from Selhurst Park before the season gets underway.

Ten facts you may not have known about Southampton's Barclays Premier League opponents on Tuesday night, Crystal Palace.

1 - Crystal Palace actually used to play their home games within the grounds of The Crystal Palace, which also hosted FA Cup finals until 1914

2 - Because of their original home ground, the club’s went under the nicknames of the Glaziers and the Crystals before they became commonly known as the Eagles in the early 1970s.

3 - Palace’s first home shirts were claret and blue. E.F. Goodman was the club’s first secretary-manager and, as a former Aston Villa employee, brought some Villa shirts down with him to kit out his new club.

4 - Their winger Jason Puncheon, who joined Palace from Saints on a permanent deal in the summer, picked up Southampton’s Goal of the Season award for the 2012/13 season thanks to his volley against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

5 - Crystal Palace are the only team in Premier League history to have been relegated after finishing fourth bottom. This happened at the end of the 1994/95 season, when the number of teams competing in the division was cut from 22 to 20.

6 - Palace have been the sole tenants of Selhurst Park since 2003, when Wimbledon – who they were ground sharing with – relocated to Milton Keynes. They had been sharing the ground with the Dons since 1991.

7 - Geographically it may come as a surprise, but Palace’s most heated rivalry is with Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion, the origins of which can be traced back to the 1940s.

8 - There have been quite a few direct dealings between Crystal Palace and Southampton in the transfer market in recent years. Stern John moved to the capital from the south coast back in 2009 before the Eagles’ Nathaniel Clyne made a move in the opposite direction in 2012. Going back even further, Iain Dowie swapped The Dell for Selhurst Park back in 1995. Since full-back Clyne’s move almost three years ago, the much-travelled Puncheon made the switch between the two clubs as recently as last summer.

9 - Palace currently hold the record for the most number of relegations from the Premier League. They went down in 1993, 1995, 1998 and 2005.

10 - The club have had seven permanent managers in five years. One of those bosses, Neil Warnock, has had two spells in the Eagles hotseat during that time.
