As the weather starts to get warmer in the United States, looking at MLB lines daily becomes a bigger part of the routine.

Baseball doesn’t do a great job of promoting the top players in the sport, but there are still enough recognizable games. This league has some future Hall of Famers taking the field each day, and this article will explore the best current players at each position.

Pitcher: Max Scherzer

There are a handful of pitchers that could be considered as the best current pitcher in MLB, but one man stands out above the pack. Max Scherzer is the most dominant pitcher in baseball at the moment, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

Scherzer is now with the Mets, and his presence might be enough to lift New York to a World Series. Jacob DeGrom would be another good choice for this position, but he can’t stay healthy enough to truly be considered.

Catcher: J.T. Realmuto

Picking the best catcher in baseball is not easy as there are some terrific choices. You could make a case for Yasmani Grandal or Will Smith, but J.T. Realmuto is the top choice.

Realmuto is a terrific defender, but his best strength comes at the plate. Realmuto is a hitting matches and he also has the speed to make him even more dangerous.

First Baseman: Freddie Freeman

Freddie Freeman won the MVP Award recently with the Atlanta Braves, and he is now with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Freeman is a terrific hitter from the left side of the plate and he is also one of the best defenders in the league.

The Dodgers are expecting Freeman to help guide them to another World Series title, and he is good enough to get that done. Matt Olson and Paul Goldschmidt would likely be the other possible choices at this position.

Second Baseman: Ozzie Albies

Picking the best second baseman isn’t an easy task as there are some solid options. This is probably the one position that doesn’t have a true superstar, but Ozzie Albies could be headed in that direction.

Jose Altuve would have been an easy choice a few years ago, but Albies has now taken the crown. Albies has ridiculous speed, and he is able to couple that with power that shows up at the top of the lineup for the Atlanta Braves.

Shortstop: Trea Turner

If picking the best second baseman was hard because there were only a few options, picking the best shortstop is the exact opposite. This is one of the prime positions in Major League Baseball and a handful of players could have been chosen.

Carlos Correa and Trea Turner are the best options though, and there isn’t a ton of separation between the two stars. Turner has more speed, and his style of play does more for teams as he sets the table for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Third Baseman: Jose Ramirez

The list of great third basemen in MLB is terrific as well, and a case could be made for about 7-8 players. There are plenty of former MVPs that play at this position, and Nolan Arenado is arguably one of the best defensive players of all time.

Jose Ramirez is a name that doesn’t get much attention by casual MLB fans, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a superstar. Ramirez has finished second in the MVP voting twice, and he could find himself in the Hall of Fame by the time his career is over.

Outfielders: Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, Bryce Harper

There are some generational talents patrolling the outfield for MLB teams throughout the league, but three men are clearly better than the rest. This seems to be the position with more superstars than the rest, especially when you look at young talent.

Mike Trout is going to go down as one of the best MLB players of all-time, but health continues to be a bit of an issue. The other two superstars play in the National League, and they just continue to put up big numbers.

Mookie Betts does a little bit of everything for the Dodgers, and Bryce Harper continues to be one of the most feared hitters in baseball. Other players can challenge to get into this group, but it’s hard to think of anyone better than these three players.
