![]() The recent decline in the number of new cars sold in the United States due to Covid-19 pandemic. |
The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling truck (and vehicle) in the United States for more than 40 years. It's also the only truck Edmunds has bashed with a sledgehammer for a YouTube video, and it's our newly minted Edmunds Top Rated Truck for 2021.
The Ford-150 is by far the most popular choice for used cars, taking the top spot for most popular used car in 39 states.
Consistently ranking in the top three, the Silverado is an appealing full-size, light-duty pickup. Numerous upgrades in 2021 demonstrate a commitment to compete for the number one spot.
The very first Chevy pickup truck from 1918 came without a bed, and buyers had to install their own. Thankfully, today's Chevrolet Silverado comes with everything you need in a full-size pickup. |
Also a consistent top-seller, the Ram has a notable focus on vehicle technology integration and economy. The 1500 has a unique reverse steering control feature that automatically parks your vehicle with an attached trailer.
The Ram name only showed up on a pickup truck in 1981, making the Ram 1500 technically a millennial. It's also comfortable and capable, winning our award as the Top Rated Truck in 2019 and 2020. |
The RAV4 (“Recreational Activity Vehicle”) leads the pack as the most popular non-truck SUV passenger car. Spacious interior and a very comfortable and quiet drive set this vehicle apart.
The Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling passenger vehicle that's not a full-size truck, and it's responsible for kicking off the SUV craze. The name stands for "Recreational Activity Vehicle." |
The CR-V is the most popular workhorse vehicle in Honda’s fleet, and, as a result, a great deal of attention goes into annual upgrades. A hybrid version of the CR-V was added in the last couple of years, and an all-electric version of the vehicle is on the horizon.
Although passenger car sedans are being edged out of the marketplace by pickups and SUVs, the Camry retains its wide popularity, and ranks as the top best-selling sedan.
The Equinox has not fared as well recently as other crossover SUVs, such as the CR-V and RAV4. Sales were down last year and, perhaps due to the pandemic, the Equinox did not offer many changes or upgrades this year.
The Sierra falls a bit short in popularity against its big three rivals. The 1500 full-size model pickup is notable, however, for its spacious interior, which makes it a convenient vehicle for family outings or hauling cargo. Like its competitors, you will sacrifice somewhat in fuel economy with the Sierra.
Corporate twin to the Chevy Silverado, the GMC Sierra delivers all of its sibling's capability in a more upscale package, especially in top-level Denali trim. |
The Civic has become a household name for Honda, and its popularity has led the automaker to focus on continual annual improvements to this model. There are numerous choices for engine and body design, with many upgrade options available.
California drivers, likely due to environmental concerns, favor smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, such as the Honda Civic and Toyota Camry. |
The Honda Accord was the first foreign vehicle to be manufactured in the United States, and more than 10.5 million have been built here since the first factory opened in Ohio in 1982.
