The NY Giants’ 2021 NFL schedule is out, will their four-year postseason drought soon be, as well?
The NY Giants haven’t made the NFL Playoffs since 2016, but as head coach Joe Judge enters his second season and quarterback Daniel Jones, his pivotal third, might this be the year that New York returns to the postseason?
Wednesday, the NY Giants’ full 2021 schedule became known, and it features a pair of prime time affairs against the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, two-time reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs, and three primetime games … as of now.
Can the NY Giants make a playoff push this season?

Week 5 at Cowboys: The Cowboys are the favorites in the NFC East, but the Giants played them tough in both matchups last season (Dallas hit a game-winning field goal with no time left in the first matchup and New York won the rematch). A healthy Dak Prescott makes the Cowboys the team to beat for the Giants, renewing one of the top rivalries in the NFL. The Giants will have to beat the Cowboys in Dallas to make a statement in the division.
Week 12 vs. Eagles: The Eagles-Giants rivalry is in full swing after what transpired to New York in Week 17 of last season. Philadelphia lost to Washington -- a game which the Eagles pulled starting quarterback Jalen Hurts to better their draft position. The Giants weren't happy about it as an Eagles victory would have clinched them the division -- even though New York was 6-10. The Giants will want payback for this one, now that they finally snapped their eight-game losing streak to Philadelphia.
Week 8 at Chiefs: A true test for the Giants defense here, as New York will square off against Patrick Mahomes for the first time. Mahomes will be at the top of his game, but the Giants defensive front will be an excellent test for the Chiefs revamped offensive line. The Giants haven't played in Arrowhead Stadium since 2013.
The NY Giants land in the coveted late-Sunday afternoon window, in a matchup that packs plenty of intrigue.
Even before factoring in the Broncos’ possible acquisition of reigning MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Week 1 for the NY Giants features the revenge game against former head coach and current Denver offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmur.
This could figure to be a chess match between two grizzled defensive coaches; the NY Giants’ defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and Broncos’ head coach Vic Fangio. Both offenses feature plenty of talent at wide receiver, after the NY Giants added Kenny Golladay and first-round rookie Kadarius Toney to quarterback Daniel Jones’ supporting cast, while the Broncos’ aerial attack features the likes of Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, and Noah Fant.
This feels like the type of game people will be betting the under on, but turns into an offensive shootout.
Prediction: 27-23 WIN
Current NY Giants record: (1-0)
The NY Giants get a short week, leading into the first appearance on prime time of the 2021 NFL season, against the defending NFC East champions.
It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, that once again the NY Giants have shorter rest than their opponent (Washington kicks off at 1 p.m. the previous week), as that has been a trend over the past decade.
While the NY Giants have plenty of firepower, the offensive line remains a concern, which is troubling when staring across the line of scrimmage at arguably the most dominant and disruptive front-seven in the NFL.
Points could be at a premium in this game, but it feels like the kind of old-school NFC East game that defined the division for decades, where the winner up front winds up winning on the scoreboard. Washington is just better in that regard, at the moment.
Prediction: 19-16, LOSS
Current NY Giants record: (1-1)

Following the early-season mini-bye week off of an appearance on Thursday Night Football, the NY Giants arrive back home a well-rested team, staring across the ball at a star-studded passing offense.
Atlanta added a game-altering weapon in tight end Kyle Pitts with the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft, but the Falcons still are far from a complete team, with plenty of holes on defense.
Presuming the NY Giants are healthy, this feels like a game where Jones, running back Saquon Barkley, and the offense can dictate to their opponent.
Prediction: 28-24, Giants WIN
Current NY Giants record: (2-1)
Drew Brees is gone, former No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston is in.
While Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas still present quite the challenge for any defense, the NY Giants’ offense is more well-rounded overall and Graham’s defense should be able to generate some steady pressure on Winston.
This has the chance to be a shootout in the Bayou, which benefits the Giants.
Prediction: 30-20, NY Giants WIN
Current NY Giants record: (3-1)
Jerry World has not been kind to the NY Giants, since its opening.
The NY Giants haven’t won in Arlington since 2016, and presuming that quarterback Dak Prescott is fully healthy, he’ll likely be hitting his stride, with one of the NFL’s more explosive collections of skill players around him.
Expect this game to be competitive, high-scoring, and a litmus test for what the NY Giants are through the first five weeks, but Judge’s squad will likely come up just short.
Prediction: 30-26, NY Giants LOSS
Current NY Giants record: (3-2)
This feels like a measuring stick game for the NY Giants.
Is Judge’s team closer to making a legitimate playoff push, or were they the beneficiary of a navigable first quarter, or so, of the regular season?
The Rams should be much improved, thanks to the offseason blockbuster trade that netted quarterback Matthew Stafford in a trade that sent Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions, and already most a dominant defensive front.
Last season, Los Angeles eked out a five-point win over the NY Giants at SoFi Stadium, and while traveling to the east coast could make this game even more interesting, the Rams seem like the more talented and battle-test team.
This will be close, but the NY Giants fall just short.
Prediction: 30-26, Giants LOSS
Current NY Giants record: (3-3)
Sam Darnold’s New Jersey return, and first game at MetLife Stadium since being traded by the New York Jets to the Carolina Panthers.
You can almost picture the storylines being written in the New York tabloids, once again revisiting whether the NY Giants made the right call by selecting running back Saquon Barkley No. 2 overall, over Darnold.
Darnold certainly is in a far better — and more stable — situation with the Panthers than he ever had with the Jets, but the NY Giants have the deeper roster and a defense that is dominant enough at all three levels to limit Carolina’s offense … Perhaps even force some game-altering Darnold turnovers.
The NY Giants take care of business in this one, and drain the clock late with a heavy dose of Barkley and Devontae Booker …
Prediction: 31-20, NY Giants WIN
Current NY Giants record (4-3)
The Chiefs, reigning AFC Champions, having appeared in each of the past two Super Bowls while being favored to return to a third, are one of the more complete teams in football and boast the greatest quarterback walking the planet, currently.
As of now, the NY Giants are none of those things.
Much like the Giants’ gutty effort against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at home, last season, a 25-23 loss, this game could be more competitive than people think. Also, Andy Reid never quite puts as much emphasis on preparation for non-conference games.
Still, Kansas City is better, Mahomes will likely compete for the MVP, and the NY Giants come up just short.
Prediction: 30-20, Giants LOSS
Current NY Giants record: (4-4)

This is the type of game the NY Giants are suddenly built to win.
The additions of defensive backs Aaron Robinson and Adoree’ Jackson this offseason, joining a secondary that already included James Bradberry, Jabrill Peppers, Xavier McKinney, and Logan Ryan, should give the NY Giants the ideal counter-punch against the Raiders’ passing game that features wide receiver Henry Ruggs III and tight end Darren Waller.
Getting the Raiders at home, following practically a transcontinental flight, is a boost for the NY Giants, who have a marginally more talented roster on both sides.
Prediction: 20-14, Giants WIN
Current NY Giants record: (5-4)
Tom Brady and the NY Giants have quite the history.
Brady will be looking to win his eighth Super Bowl ring this fall, and will be doing so after the Buccaneers returned all 22 starters from last year’s team that hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in Tampa’s home stadium. Last season, the NY Giants hung tough against the Buccaneers, at home, on Monday Night Football. But, with what promises to be a well-oiled defending Super Bowl champion machine, that seems like it might be tougher to do this time around.
Brady gets the last laugh.
Prediction: 31-21, NY Giants LOSS
Current NY Giants record: (5-5)
If the NFL allows stadiums to be at full capacity by this late juncture of the season, this might be the most hostile environment across the league, all season.
The NY Giants were far less than thrilled by former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson’s handling of Philadelphia’s Week 17 game to close out the 2020 regular season, accusing the division rivals of tanking the second half to allow the Washington Football Team a postseason berth and slam the door shut on New York’s playoff hopes.
If any players on the NY Giants roster forget, rest assured they will be reminded all week, both by the coaching staff and media.
By this stage of the season, it will be apparent whether Jalen Hurts or Jones took the requisite leaps in their developments as quarterbacks that the Eagles and Giants are hoping they do. But, the NY Giants seem to have the more talented roster on paper, and certainly have all the added motivation in this revenge situation.
Prediction: 26-17, NY Giants WIN
Current NY Giants record: (6-5)
Both the NY Giants and Miami Dolphins are banking on their young quarterbacks seizing the opportunity of being surrounded by dynamic players at the skill positions, and developing into franchise quarterbacks this season.
That will undoubtedly be the storyline of Jones vs. Tua Tagovailoa, but don’t be shocked if this turns into a low-scoring affair as Brian Flores matches up against his former protegè, Graham, and the game devolves into a defensive-struggle.
This feels like a coming-of-age moment for Jones, who just might lead a fourth-quarter game-winning comeback drive …
Prediction: 17-16, NY Giants WIN
Current NY Giants record: (7-5)
Justin Herbert is what the NY Giants hope Jones develops into.
One of the NFL’s brightest stars, Herbert has all kinds of firepower around him, as Jones does.
Look for the Chargers to be a team that can push for a Wild Card berth in the AFC. The NY Giants were likely always going to be slight underdogs in this game, but given that it is the second consecutive road game, makes it just a bit tougher.
Prediction: 23-21 Loss
Current NY Giants record: (7-6)
The NY Giants open the final month of the season, that features three games against division opponents, the same away they ended the 2020 season; hosting the Dallas Cowboys.
If Dak Prescott stays healthy, the Cowboys deploy one of the more explosive collections of skill position players on offense across the league. Matching up against running back Ezekiel Elliott, and wide receivers Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup will certainly tax the NY Giants’ secondary.
This will be a competitive game, and certainly a barometer game for the NY Giants, as the Cowboys are likely the prohibitive favorites to win the NFC East this season. New York keeps it close, but Prescott manages to leave the Garden State with a victory.
Prediction: 27-24, NY Giants LOSS
Current NY Giants record (7-7)

Philadelphia should be frothing for this game, especially if the Eagles fall to the NY Giants in the first meeting between the teams just four weeks prior.
The NY Giants haven’t swept the Eagles since 2007 and have lost 12 of the last 14 games to their rivals from 90 minutes south, but this season feels like New York is just closer to competing than Philadelphia is.
If the NY Giants are healthy this late in the season, Jones, Golladay, Shepard, Toney, Slayton, Barkley, and Engram is as formidable a collection of offensive skill positions as you’ll find in the NFL. The Eagles’ defense will have its hands full, and overall, it just seems like Philadelphia is closer to rebuilding than competing than the organization would care to admit.
Prediction: 20-10, NY Giants WIN
Current NY Giants record: (8-7)
