It's official: the story of high-school football star Spencer James, inspired by the life of former pro NFL player Spencer Paysinger, will continue beyond the current chapter into season three.

The CW confirmed in January that it's coming back, so you can take that to the bank.

When All American Season 3 Return In 2021

All American is going on a little bit of a hiatus. The series returns Monday, April 12, 2021 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW, Decider noted.

The official synopsis for that episode reads: "SEASON PREMIERE—Spencer (Daniel Ezra) finds himself on the defense after an interview he gave comes out, upsetting his old teammates and emotions get the best of them. Coop (Bre-Z) and Layla (Greta Onieogou) return from tour, but while Coop tries to figure out what happened with Patience (Chelsea Tavares), she tries to learn why Tyrone's sister is back.

"Billy (Taye Diggs) is excited for a fresh start at South Crenshaw High, but he must confront something from his past first that could be a roadblock to his success. Meanwhile, Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Simone (guest star Geffri Maya) struggle with saying goodbye to someone they love. Samantha Logan, Cody Christian, Monet Mazur and Karimah Westbrook also star. Michael Schultz directed the episode written by Nkechi Okoro Carroll."

Though a number of shows from The CW are getting shorter seasons due to the extra time and cost it takes to make a show during the pandemic, All American Season 3 is expected to get a full 16-episode order, meaning episodes are expected to air weekly in the same time slot until late spring, according to Newsweek.

When will All American season 3 release on Netflix?

Fortunately, with The CW releases, they arrive eight days after they wrap up. All American follows a familiar schedule each year so predicting its Netflix release is fairly simple.

Of course, this doesn’t include brand new shows from The CW (debuted after 2019) but does cover the likes of Black Lightning, Riverdale, The Flash and more.

Now, originally we were expecting All American to be part of The CW’s fall line-up. That has now changed with All American being pushed back to January 18th, 2021. That’ll mean roughly a three-month additional wait for it to then arrive on Netflix (assuming there will be 16 episodes as per previous seasons).

The reason for the delay should be obvious but the entire slate of fall titles from The CW has been delayed due to delays in production due to COVID-19.

That means we’re currently expecting the show to wrap up on The CW sometime around May/June 2021 and arrive on Netflix soon after. If the show’s episode count is expanded, we could be waiting well into the middle of the summer, Whats-on-netflix wrote.

Daniel Ezra and Taye Diggs will return, along with Samantha Logan, Bre-Z, Greta Onieogou, Karimah Westbrook, Chad Coleman, Monét Mazur, Michael Evans Behling, and Jalyn Hall. Chelsea Tavares, who portrays Patience, will be getting more screen time in Season 3, as Tavares has been promoted to series regular.

All American season 3 plot: What will happen?

Showrunner April Blair is keeping schtum about season three details, but it's a given that the action will pick up where we left off, with Crenshaw High looking like it could turn into a magnet school.

There's also a big question mark hanging over Spencer's injury and whether he's really better.

And Coach Baker has a lot on his plate, too. Not only has he moved out of the family home, there's also going to be some serious drama on the football field.

Chatting to PopCulture about the challenges facing Coach Baker in season three, Diggs said: "Now that they're switching this up and I'm gonna be literally coaching for the opposing team but still having a son that is the quarterback for the team I used to coach for, I have no idea how the writers are going to approach that."

Plus, will Simone and Jordan make a go of things after that kiss, and can Olivia and Asher go the distance?

Then there's Olivia, who is struggling to get a handle on her addiction issues, and with Tyrone's sister watching Coop, does that spell danger for him?
