Let’s be honest, after waiting two whole years you were never going to watch Line of Duty in a calm and paced manner, you'll charge through every episode quicker than you can say "anti-corruption". Don’t worry, we’ve got your replacement viewing list sorted.

1. Marcella

IMDb says: Marcella Backland left the Metropolitan Police for the sake of her family, only to have her husband leave her. She returns to her job on the murder squad, investigating a case that seems disturbingly familiar to her.

We say: Nobody mentions series three. We, the viewers, do not acknowledge series three…

2. Broadchurch

IMDb says: The murder of a young boy in a small coastal town brings a media frenzy, which threatens to tear the community apart

We say: For a lot of people Broadchurch is the pinnacle of crime dramas, and that's before we even get onto the fact it stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman.

3. Paranoid

IMDb says: The murder of a female GP in a rural playground in front of numerous witnesses draws a group of detectives into an ever-darkening mystery that takes them across Europe, aided by mysterious notes sent by the "Ghost Detective".

We say: This series is full of complex twists and turns and smart in the way it plays on the paranoia of those involved. Tense AF, essentially.

4. Your Honour

IMDb says: A judge confronts his convictions when his son is involved in a hit and run that embroils an organised crime family. Facing impossible choices, he discovers how far a father will go to save his son's life.

We say: Not only will this big-budget series keep you on the edge of your seat throughout every episode, it's also an important portrayal of white privilege and the power imbalance held by the wealthy.

5. Criminal

IMDb says: A cat-and-mouse drama, which focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects. The stories take place within the confines of a police interview suite.

We say: We all love Line of Duty's interrogation scenes, and this is basically a whole series of them. Plus, LOD’s Rochenda Sandall stars. Double whammy. The rest of cast is also a big deal, with Sophie Okonedo, Kit Harrington, David Tennant and Sharon Horgan all starring.

6. Gangs of London

IMDb says: Tells the story of London being torn apart by the turbulent power struggles of its international gangs and the sudden power vacuum that's created when the head of London's most powerful crime family is assassinated.

We say: Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole heads up the cast alongside His Dark Materials’ Lucian Msamati and Game of Thrones’ Michelle Fairley. If that wasn't enough the series is wall-to-wall drama, with all the twists and turns you could want.

7. Unforgotten

IMDb says: London detectives investigate crimes from the past, unravelling secrets left buried for years.

We say: The series stars Nicola Walker, who you’ll recognize from all TV ever and The Kumars Sanjeev Bhaskar. Unforgotten is a good old-fashioned cop drama, with a solid 24 episodes across three seasons, so you can really dedicate some time to this.

8. True Detective

IMDb says: Seasonal anthology series in which police investigations unearth the personal and professional secrets of those involved, both within and outside the law.

We say: True Detective is top tier crime drama stuff, with an unbelievable cast of huge namesfrom Matthew McConnaughey and Rachel McAdams to Mahershala Ali.

9. Baptiste

IMDb says: The mercurial detective, Julien Baptiste, on holiday in Amsterdam with his wife, assists in an investigation for his former girlfriend, the Amsterdam Chief of Police.

We say: Tcheky Karyo aka the man with the nicest voice in the world plays Baptiste alongside The Night Manager’s Tom Hollander. The series - a spinoff of The Missing - is perfect for Line of Duty fans because Baptiste not playing by the rules is essentially a homage to Steve Arnott.

10. Luther

IMDb says: DCI John Luther is a near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can't always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions.

We say: This series wants to terrify you. The fact that none of us can forget the scene with the man in the mask on the bus is case in point. And the fact that we kept watching it even after that scene proves just how good it is.

11. Informer

IMDb says: A young East London man is coerced by an officer to work undercover for him.

We say: Don't be misled by this really quite average trailer, the series is anything but average. We're just crossing our fingers for season 2.

12. The Missing

IMDb says: When Tony and Emily Hughes travel to France with their 5-year-old son Oliver, their family holiday turns into a nightmare when Oliver disappears from a large celebrating crowd in Northern France.

We say: You will be very hard pushed not to binge this entire series in one sitting.

13. Top of the Lake

IMDb says: Obsessed with the disappearance of a 12-year-old pregnant girl near a freezing lake in New Zealand, a brave detective will find herself up against small-town secrets and a side of herself that was meticulously kept at bay.

We say: Did someone say Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Moss and Gwendoline Christie?

14. The Sinner

IMDb says: Anthology series that examines how and why ordinary people commit brutal crimes.

We say: There are three increasingly sinister series of The Sinner for you to get your teeth into, each one with a huge roster of celeb names from Jessica Biel to Matt Bomer.

15. The Fall

IMDb says: A seemingly cold but very passionate policewoman goes head to head with a seemingly passionate father who is in fact a cold serial killer in this procedural out of Belfast. The only thing they share is their common complexity.

We say: We were as obsessed with The Fall when it first aired back in 2013 as we were when it landed on Netflix in 2020.

Line of Duty series 5 has come to an end, and while that means we can breathe a little easier on Sunday nights, it’s tough to know where we’ll go next for tortuous interview scenes, creepy coppers and killer corruption. If you’re not sure what to watch next, perhaps these shows can help fill the void.
